Dale retired in 2014 as Minister of Music at Auburn First Baptist Church after serving there for forty one years.  He continues as Composer in Residence and Minister of Music Emeritus at First Baptist.  In addition, Dale is Instructor of Music Theory at Auburn University Department of Music.  He holds degrees from Kentucky Southern College of the University of Louisville and the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati.

Dale has over 100 published compositions that are found in the catalogs of numerous publishers and he has received awards from ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) for thirty five consecutive years.  An active member of the ACDA (American Choral Directors Association), his choirs have been selected to sing at both State and Divisional Conventions.  His choirs have also been chosen to premiere music at Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly.

Peterson has served as Chair of the Music in Worship Committee of the Southern Division ACDA.  He has served as clinician and workshop leader for children, youth, and adult choirs throughout the south.  Dale has written commissioned musical works for both churches and universities.  He is married and has two adult sons and four grandchildren.
